Is this course right for me?

Target Audience: This course is appropriate for researchers and research leaders who are established in their career, especially those with Departmental / Faculty responsibilities.

This is a live course with sessions online and on campus.

Session 1 – Online: Thursday 6 June 2024

Session 2 – On campus: Wednesday 12 June 2024

This practical, interactive 90-minute course will offer an overview of the key principles of research impact for senior and established academics.

Participants will explore the key principles that underpin research impact (especially as they apply to the development of criteria for REF 2029), while individual and group exercises will enable participants to better understand research impact, will offer support in developing a record of research impact, and will troubleshoot some of the challenges faced by academic leadership in promoting impact.

This course has been designed for established academics looking to better understand, articulate, and record how their research makes a difference in the world, supporting researcher development in advance of REF2029, enabling more effective UKRI funding applications, and aiding further career development.

Outcomes/Objectives

Participants will:

  • Understand the key concepts associated with research impact, be able to identify impact, and to distinguish the impact pathway from the research impact itself.
  • Identify areas from within their existing research that may provide helpful pathways to impact.
  • Learn how to record their impact using Strathclyde’s Pure system.
  • Understand the types of evidence that can be used to demonstrate impact.
  • Develop an outline impact record, based on their current research.
  • Discuss approaches to support colleagues to better understand and record their research impact.
  • Have time for questions, and to give and receive feedback from colleagues.
