Professor McAra-McWilliam is Deputy Director (Innovation) at the Glasgow School of Art. She specializes in Design and Complex Creativity.

She developed the new discipline of Design Innovation and created the Innovation School at GSA which opened in 2017. She created a new campus in the highlands - GSA Highlands and Islands – to address transformational change within a distributed geography. She is also leading the development of the new first year curriculum at GSA, to be launched in 2019 when all first year students will be welcomed into the newly restored Mackintosh Building.

She will talk about creativity and the imagination in both historic and contemporary contexts, and how Design has evolved to address complex environments. Professor McAra-McWilliam will particularly discuss emerging opportunities for designers, psychologists, scientists and technologists to work together with diverse disciplines in ‘extreme collaboration’.
