Target Audience: Data Protection Contacts (All Faculties)

The Faculty Managers wish to invite you to attend one of two cross-faculty meetings following the introduction of the General Data Protection Regulation on 25 May 2018.

We'd like to reassure you that colleagues in Professional Services are working hard on preparing for GDPR.  There is already a wealth of information and guidance on the Information Governance SharePoint site, which supplements the awareness-raising training arranged. Link is provided at the foot of the page.

The Data Protection Officer, Mrs Elaine Grant, has informed us that focus is currently on the big data sets, i.e. the student and staff records.  SEES and HR are leading on ensuring that in relation to these the University is compliant.  Recent advice has been developed by M&DS on managing privacy notices for enquirers and applicants for study.  Guidance on e-records is being developed by a University-wide working group convened by the Deputy Director of Information Services Directorate, Mrs Catherine McMillan.

We acknowledge that communication on this challenging change has been somewhat limited.  As one counter to that, we are arranging two cross-faculty meetings where we can share good practice and highlight concerns.  This meeting will not replace the regular newsletters and other guidance provided by the Information Governance team, but we hope you will find it a useful forum for you.

We look forward to seeing you at one of the two meetings.
