Strathclyde is committed to building on our socially progressive ethos by developing in our students the “knowledge and understanding of sustainable development that is vital for the type of global citizen Strathclyde is committed to nurturing and producing”.

“Providing an outstanding and distinctive student experience” is a strategic objective of the University’s Vision 2025 Strategic Plan launched in February 2020. In our “Vision” it is made clear that we intend to achieve this in part by “placing Education for Sustainable Development, aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), at the heart of our curricula” and by “embracing change in teaching and learning processes introduce new approaches that stimulate students to ask questions, empathise, analyse and think critically about the world around them and the positive impact they can have on it”.

 Strathclyde’s innovative and award-winning Vertically Integrated Projects for Sustainable Development (VIP4SD) programme is the first of its kind in UK Higher Education and seeks to embed research-based education for sustainable development in in and across the Strathclyde curricula. It offers students the opportunity to gain academic credits by working in partnership with their peers from different disciplines and year groups, and with experienced researchers and academics, on ambitious research projects that tackle the SDGs.

This information session will offer an introduction to the VIP4SD programme and outline what’s involved in setting up and running a student-facing research project. The session will also discuss the current call for VIP4SD projects responding to COVID-19 and offer participants the chance to ask the VIP4SD team questions about the call, as well as what is involved in establishing and running a VIP4SD more generally. Academics with experience of running VIP4SD projects will be on-hand to offer advice based on their own experienceSs.

Outcomes/Objectives;

To increase awareness and understanding of the VIP4SD programme and its relevance to the University’s strategic priorities, how you can set up and run a project of your own with the support of your department, and to answer questions relating to the current call for projects relating to COVID-19.
