Target Audience: Research, KE, Academic and Professional Staff involved in delivering learning and teaching to students via Zoom

When we lecture, we have the benefit of having the class right in front of us. We can gauge their understanding based on body language, the look on their face when they are confused or the look of “ah ha” when they get it, but we may not see so many faces in a zoom meeting.  This may be because people are spread out over multiple pages, or they turn their cameras off for a variety of reasons. This presents us, as teachers, with some challenges, and we must find ways to engage them and keep them interested.

This drop-in session is designed to help you, the lecturer or tutor, continue to have engaging teaching sessions with students when you may not be able to see them. Throughout this session you will get some key tips from a former radio professional who has also conducted qualitative research with other media professionals.

During the session these main themes will be explored - why they are important to people in the media industry and how they can help promote better engagement with students in the virtual classroom. Everyone will have an opportunity to practice using the technique in the session and will benefit from instructor and peer feedback.
