Target Audience: All staff members and students involved in research

Open Research is a term that is used more and more prominently by funders, policy makers and institutions – but what does it actually mean in practice? 

Come along to this half-day session of short talks by expert speakers to learn about different aspects of Open Research and how these may apply to your own research contexts. The session will cover topics such as open access publications, data sharing with FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable), co-production and public engagement

10:00 – 11:15: Introduction 

  • Welcome and outline of programme 
  • Overview of Open Research and Strathclyde’s ambition 
  • Open Access requirements and routes 
  • Benefits of publishing open access and pre-prints: case studies 
  • Promoting your research through social media 

 11:30 – 12:30: FAIR Data 

  • FAIR Data definition and key considerations 
  • The ethics of data sharing and secondary data usage 
  • Facilitating data sharing and data preservation 
  • Benefits of data sharing: case studies 

 13:00 – 14:30: Open Engagement 

  • Introduction to Open Engagement 
  • Public Engagement: overview of the benefits and support available 
  • Co-production / co-creation case studies 
  • Measuring our reach 
  • Closing remarks 

 The talks will also be recorded and made available for streaming online after the event. 

Course Outcomes/ Objectives:

Through participating in this event, you will 

  • learn about the meaning of Open Research in its various facets; 
  • gain insights from expert speakers on topics such as publications, data sharing, co-creation and public engagement; 
  • understand the benefits of applying Open Research concepts into your work.

Cancellation Policy

When applying for a course, you should note that there will be a £50* to your department if you cancel within 5** working days or you do not attend, and a £25 charge for cancellations/ non-attendance between 6 and 10 working days. There will be no charge for cancellation made 10 or more working days before the event. Notifications should be made to OSDU@strath.ac.uk

A department is welcome to send someone else in your place if they wish without incurring a charge, providing that person has the necessary pre-requisites for the course. In the case of courses split over more than one day, you must attend ALL parts of the course. If you fail to attend any part you will be charged as outlined above.

*This is the standard charge for cancellation or non-attendance of course of 1 days duration or less. For some courses there may be a higher cancellation charge and if this is the case you will be advised of this at the time of booking.

**Any bookings made within 10 days of the event will incur the charges as specified.
