This workshop describes the key habits that our research and experience with thousands of students shows will make a difference to how quickly and easily you complete your PhD. Just as importantly, these habits can greatly reduce the stress and increase the pleasure involved in completing a PhD.

Hugh Kearns is one of the world's leading researchers and practitioners in doctoral studies. He lectures all over the world and has written extensively on the PhD experience including having several articles published in the journal Nature based on his work.

By the end of the workshop participants will:

  • Know how you deal with their supervisor
  • Have techniques to help structure study time
  • Have an improved attitude to their research
  • Be able to deal with writer's block
  • Learn coping strategies for juggling lots of priorities
  • Feel able to keep going when life is tough

All postgraduate research students are eligible to access the Researcher Development Programme workshops. This workshop can contribute towards the PG Certificate in Researcher Professional Development (PG Cert RPD).

You can find credit and class information in the Researcher Development Programme Handbook and in NEPTUNE (Engineering, HaSS) or SPIDER (Science).

Please check with your department or Supervisor to confirm if you are enrolled on the PG Cert RPD and how many credits you are expected to achieve if you are unsure.
