Target Audience: All staff involved in teaching within the university
This masterclass will review the Curriculum for Excellence, including the 'four capacities' successful learners, confident individuals, responsible citizens and effective contributors, and will reflect on how this may align with higher education teaching and learning. It is known that implementation of CfE has been variable across local authorities and schools, and understood that the curriculum is still evolving, and so the characteristics of learners coming through Curriculum for Excellence may be variable and may continue to evolve as the curriculum matures. Staff attending this Masterclass will be able to reflect on the anticipated characteristics of learners coming through the CfE and will be able to reflect on how they can modify teaching and assessment practices to aid in the transition of learners to university and ensure a curriculum that aligns with the principles of the CfE
Outcomes/Objectives:
- Describe the CfE, including the f'our capacities' and reflect on how this may align with higher education teaching and learning
- Discuss the implementation of CfE, and the uncertainties this raises for anticipating learner characteristics
- Reflect on the anticipated characteristics of learners coming through Curriculum for Excellence, and how this might impact on programme structures, pedagogical practices, and assessment practices

Prerequisites
This event is part of the Strathclyde Teaching Excellence Programme (STEP). This is a unique development programme aimed at traditional academic and teaching staff, and relevant to all staff engaged in teaching.CANCELLATION We want our events to run at full capacity to ensure value for money and to get the most from group interactions and discussions. Cancelling attendance at a course should only be done as a last resort (some of our events are delivered by consultants and we would incur a high fee if we need to cancel events based on low numbers). Demand is high for our events with many having a waiting list and when a booking is made, others are turned away on the strength of that booking. If you have to cancel an event we would appreciate as much notice as possible (at least 48 hours)
