Target Audience: Leaders and aspiring leaders in academic, service or management positions
Leadership can be hard. It involves challenging conversations, tough decisions and a high workload.
Most leaders therefore know they need courage. Courage is the strength of character that allows leaders to keep going and do what needs to be done, with skill and self-respect.
Fewer leaders however realise the need for humility. Humility is not low self-esteem or lack of ambition, but rather the ability to see oneself and ones' abilities accurately. Consequently, research suggests that humble leaders are better at learning, less prone to mid-career derailment and bring the best out in those they lead.
In fact, recent research in psychology and leadership suggests that the most effective leaders possess an unusual combination of humility and courage. The humility to see the world as it is and the courage to do something about it.
This two-day workshop draws on the most up-to-date research to inform and inspire leaders to develop the twin character strengths of courage and humility where needed. Delegates will be introduced to cutting-edge science and evidence-based strategies proven to enhance leadership capability and workforce engagement.
The two-day workshop is delivered in four parts in which delegates will learn the following:
- Character-Driven Leadership
- Leading with Courage
- Leading with Humility
- Paradoxical Leadership
Delivered By: Dr R Bretherton, University of Lincoln
