This 3 day comprehensive training course is ideal for anyone wishing to become qualified as a first aider. It covers a wider range of subjects than covered by the Emergency First Aid at Work Qualification. It provides delegates with the skills and knowledge required to deal with first aid situations in higher risk workplaces. The course is assessed through a multiple choice question paper, practical observations and verbal questions. Successful completion results in a First Aid at Work certificate valid for 3 years.

The course covers:

  • Responsibilities of the first aider
  • Primary survey
  • Recovery position
  • Resescitation
  • Choking
  • Shock
  • Bleeding and minor injuries
  • Secondary survey
  • Major injuries
  • Anaphylactic shock

The course also covers; major illnesses, incident management, head injuries, burns, unconscious casualty management, bones, joints and muscle injuries, poisons, eye injuries and defibrillation.

Prerequisites

Provision of training is strictly on a First Aid needs assessment basis and MUST be approved by the Head of Department or by a nominated person. Confirmation of approval will be requested.

Charges for no-shows to courses

When registering for a course, you should note that there will be a £50* charge to your department if you cancel within 5** working days or you do not attend. There will be a £25 charge for cancellations between 6 and 10 working days. There will be no charge for cancellations made 10 or more working days before the event. You should cancel your booking via the DAT system or by emailing safety.training@strath.ac.uk.

Your department is welcome to send someone else in your place if they wish without incurring a charge, providing that person has the necessary prerequisites for the course. In the case of courses split over more than one day, you must attend ALL parts of the course. If you fail to attend any part, you will be charged as outlined above.

*This is the standard charge for cancellation or non-attendance at a one day’s duration or less course. For some courses there may be a higher cancellation charge.
