Is this course right for me?
Target Audience: Staff
This one day course is designed to provide delegates with training in emergency first aid and is especially suited for nominated first aiders in smaller, low risk working environments.
This qualification is assessed by a multiple choice question paper, practical observation and verbal questioning. Successful completion results in an Emergency at Work certificate valid for 3 years.
- Understand the role and responsibilities of a first aider
- Be able to assess an incident
- Be able to manage an unresponsive casualty who is not breathing normally
- Be able to manage and assist a casualty who is choking
- Be able to manage a casualty with external bleeding
- Be able to manage a casualty who is in shock
- Be able to manage a casualty with a minor injury

Prerequisites
Provision of training is strictly on a First Aid needs assessment basis and MUST be approved by the Head of Department or by a nominated person. Confirmation of approval will be requested.Charges for no-shows to courses
When registering for a course, you should note that there will be a £50* charge to your department if you cancel within 5** working days or you do not attend. There will be a £25 charge for cancellations between 6 and 10 working days. There will be no charge for cancellations made 10 or more working days before the event. You should cancel your booking via the DAT system or by emailing safety.training@strath.ac.uk.
Your department is welcome to send someone else in your place if they wish without incurring a charge, providing that person has the necessary prerequisites for the course. In the case of courses split over more than one day, you must attend ALL parts of the course. If you fail to attend any part, you will be charged as outlined above.
*This is the standard charge for cancellation or non-attendance at a one day’s duration or less course. For some courses there may be a higher cancellation charge.
