Target Audience: University staff and students, and external guests.

In addition to signing the Armed Forces Covenant and creating an Armed Forces Community Champion, this seminar will consider policies which can be implemented to better support military families, specifically looking at the University’s intention to create a ‘Named Contact’ who would act as a point of contact for support, outreach, and communication to students from military families.

The session will be opened by Dr Andrew McLaren, Engineering Vice Dean (Academic) and Convener of the Glasgow and Strathclyde Military Education Committee, and will hear from expert groups, and students from military families.

Key outputs:

  • Build on dialogue between Strathclyde staff and students, sector and military representatives, and those with personal experience to understand the opportunities that further and higher education can deliver for those from military families.
  • Enable the University to begin developing a practical action plan to support the development of policies to better support applicants and students from a military family.

We welcome you to join in this active discussion as a professional, or an individual with personal interest, to contribute to identifying practical next steps. This seminar will also provide you with the opportunity to network and collaborate.

An optional lunch will be provided from 12:30pm until 1pm. If you would like to attend this, please note your attendance by stating "I will attend the lunch" under the "dietary requirements" section of the booking form, along with any additional dietary requirements you may have.
