More than ever it is important to ensure effective communication with your students and to ensure that they have a voice. Flipgrid is a free video discussion platform from Microsoft that helps educators see and hear from their learners anytime, anywhere. In Flipgrid, educators post prompts for their class and learners respond with short videos, forming an asynchronous video discussion around educator-defined topics.

Session One : Introduction to Flipgrid - 10 Sept - 1pm - 2pm

 This session will provide Overview of Flipgrid and how this can be used in Learning and Teaching and to promote a sense of online social presence. Participants will be shown examples of how this has been used in practice and discuss possibilities for using Flipgrid in their own practice. There will be a practical offline exercise where participants will be invited to respond to Flipgrid topic for those attending Session Two.

 Session Two : Flipgrid in Practice - 14 Sept - 1pm - 2pm

 This session will review outcomes of the introductory session and showcase participants practical use of Flipgrid and responses to the offline exercise.  There will be time to discuss how to take Flipgrid further within your own learning and teaching including an overview of how to set up specific Flipgrid topics followed by helpful practical tips.

Outcomes/Objectives;

 To provide an overview of how Flipgrid can be used in Higher Education to enhance communication and to highlight how it can be used in Learning and Teaching to promote a sense of online social presence.

"Debbie Baff is the Membership and Professional Development Manager for the Association for Learning Technology (ALT) and leads a portfolio of work relating to Membership Services and has responsibility for the development and management of the CMALT Accreditation Framework. Debbie has been working in UK Higher Education since the late 1990’s working across all areas of the student and staff experience.  She is an experienced Senior Academic Developer and Manager and is a fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA).  She holds a Masters in Online and Distance Education, an MSc in Business Psychology and a BSc (Hons) Pyschology , Debbie is in her fourth  year of a part time PhD in Technology Enhanced Learning and E- Research at Lancaster University. Her research interests include personal learning networks and emotional support, open, social and online collaboration and connecting communities through technology enhanced learning.  Debbie is a keen advocate of using Flipgrid to enhance online social presence amongst staff and students.

Cancellation Policy

When applying for a course, you should note that there will be a £50* to your department if you cancel within 5** working days or you do not attend, and a £25 charge for cancellations/ non-attendance between 6 and 10 working days. There will be no charge for cancellation made 10 or more working days before the event. Notifications should be made to OSDU@strath.ac.uk

A department is welcome to send someone else in your place if they wish without incurring a charge, providing that person has the necessary pre-requisites for the course. In the case of courses split over more than one day, you must attend ALL parts of the course. If you fail to attend any part you will be charged as outlined above.

*This is the standard charge for cancellation or non-attendance of course of 1 days duration or less. For some courses there may be a higher cancellation charge and if this is the case you will be advised of this at the time of booking.

**Any bookings made within 10 days of the event will incur the charges as specified.
