Is this course right for me?
Target Audience: LIR staff
The Problem
Libraries must provide services to all parts of the community. To do this effectively we need to be aware of our legal responsibilities, our own biases, conscious and unconscious, the needs of different communities, and the skills to create an empowering and harassment-free environment.
The Solution
In this interactive training session, the law will be explained practically, focussing on how to meet responsibilities. Then we will look at non-discriminatory language, and cultural issues which create a different library experience. Finally, we will look at how unconscious bias works, and what practical strategies are needed to combat it.
