Target Audience: All staff with an interest in pedagogy

This is a live in-person series of sessions.  There is no waiting list.

The Pedagogy Book Club is open to anyone interested in teaching and learning in higher education. Each semester, participants engage with a shared pedagogical text through facilitated discussion and practical application, implementing ideas in their own contexts to deepen understanding of pedagogy.

The Pedagogy Book Club is a low-stakes community of practice grounded in evidence-informed pedagogy. The series provides a collegial space to engage with contemporary, evidence-informed scholarship on learning and teaching, combining structured discussion with practical application. Open to anyone interested in teaching and learning in higher education, this book club will provide knowledge, discussion, and strategies useful for all disciplines.

In the Spring 2026 semester, the Pedagogy Book Club will focus on Small Teaching: Everyday Lessons from the Science of Learning by James Lang. Across three sessions, participants will read and discuss selected chapters exploring how small, research-informed changes to teaching can have a meaningful impact on student learning. In addition to discussion, participants will experiment with selected “small teaching” strategies between meetings and report back on their experiences, supporting practical transfer to everyday teaching contexts.
