    LEV Management and Practical Course

    Participation is advised for Local Exhaust Ventilation Coordinators / Estates Engineers who may be required to advise on the design and installation of LEV systems to control airborne contaminants or those who are responsible for the management and effective operation of LEV systems.

Is this course right for me?

Target Audience: Local Exhaust Ventilation Coordinators / Estates Engineers.

This course syllabus will provide delegates with a basic appreciation of:

 

1) Basic health effects of hazardous substances

2) How airborne contaminants behave after being generated by different types of processes

3) The different types of capture hood design and their application to typical processes and their limitations.

4) The roles of various stakeholders in the process of installing designing, installing and testing LEV.

5) How the supplier should commission the system and the information they should supply e.g. a user manual and log book

6) How to make sure that control of exposure is adequate

7) Routine visual and basic inspections

8) Understanding of legal responsibilities.

9) Understand what LEV is and its main role.

10) Understand what equipment is available and its intended use.

The Practical aspect of the course will give delegates the skills needed to conduct the following measurements.

  1. Become familiar with measurements/parameters used to test the performance of LEV systems.
  2. Become familiar and use LEV testing equipment to conduct a range of measurements.
  3. Learn the correct techniques needed for each type of instrument.
  4. Learn correct measurement strategies.
  5. Demonstrate leant skills by undertaking practical exercises on various LEV’s.

Prerequisites

Participants must

• be nominated by their Head of Department

• bring clean laboratory coats and safety glasses/goggles for the practical session.

Charges for no-shows to courses

When registering for a course, you should note that there will be a £50* charge to your department if you cancel within 5** working days or you do not attend. There will be a £25 charge for cancellations between 6 and 10 working days. There will be no charge for cancellations made 10 or more working days before the event. You should cancel your booking via the DAT system or by emailing safety.training@strath.ac.uk.

Your department is welcome to send someone else in your place if they wish without incurring a charge, providing that person has the necessary prerequisites for the course. In the case of courses split over more than one day, you must attend ALL parts of the course. If you fail to attend any part, you will be charged as outlined above.

*This is the standard charge for cancellation or non-attendance at a one day’s duration or less course. For some courses there may be a higher cancellation charge.
