Target Audience: Postgraduate Research Students

Participants will explore writing in the 1st year of the doctorate, covering writing about the literature, using writing to develop their own style, and to manage an evolving research project.

By the end of the workshop participants will have:

  • Started to write critically and systematically about the literature
  • Used writing to develop a literature review, a methodology and a set of research questions/hypotheses
  • Developed an understanding the purpose of a doctoral thesis
  • Developed an academic style
  • Understood writing as a process, one that poses particular challenges to doctoral researchers
  • Used writing to manage an emerging and changing program of research.

All postgraduate research students are eligible to access the Researcher Development Programme workshops. This workshop can contribute towards the PG Certificate in Researcher Professional Development (PG Cert RPD).

You can find credit and class information in the Researcher Development Programme Handbook and in NEPTUNE (Engineering, HaSS) or SPIDER (Science).

Please check with your department or Supervisor to confirm if you are enrolled on the PG Cert RPD and how many credits you are expected to achieve if you are unsure.
