Target Audience: Postgraduate Research Students

Participants will explore issues relevant to writing in the 2nd year of the doctorate. Particular emphasis is given to the difficulty managing an evolving project, understanding the demands and structure of research writing and applying that knowledge.

By the end of the workshop participants will explore:

  • Writing introductions and conclusions
  • Planning the structure of your thesis
  • Writing about evidence and data
  • Editing and redrafting techniques
  • Approaching writing as a process
  • Managing an emerging and changing program of research
  • Managing the volume and complexity of the research document
  • Overcoming obstacles that get in the way of writing effectively.

All postgraduate research students are eligible to access the Researcher Development Programme workshops. This workshop can contribute towards the PG Certificate in Researcher Professional Development (PG Cert RPD).

You can find credit and class information in the Researcher Development Programme Handbook and in NEPTUNE (Engineering, HaSS) or SPIDER (Science).

Please check with your department or Supervisor to confirm if you are enrolled on the PG Cert RPD and how many credits you are expected to achieve if you are unsure.
