Target Audience: All staff with a role in PG Research Supervision

The session will allow staff to reflect on how they can support students to improve their mental wellbeing, through listening and sign-posting. Participants will explore the topic of mental health and reflect on the various factors that can impact on the mental health of their students. The session will provide guidance to staff on the roles and responsibilities of supporting students with their mental health as well as guidance on duty of care, boundaries and confidentiality.

The session will encourage staff to engage in activities that will allow them to:

  • Recognise the signs of a person experiencing poor mental health.
  • Learn how to facilitate supportive conversations in a compassionate manner.
  • Reflect on how they can support a student in distress.

Facilitators will provide guidance on how staff can signpost students onto supports. Up-to-date information will be provided on the support services, groups and self-help tools that are available on campus. Participants will have time to reflect on their own wellbeing, and find out what support is available to staff.
