Is this course right for me?
Target Audience: Staff involved in research or research support
This is a live in-person event.
Come along for an interactive conversation to talk about why ethics and research governance processes exist in research and who is protected by them.
With deadlines looming and multiple work demands, it can be difficult to remember why processes such as ethical review, applying for project licenses, and due diligence checks are required. Using case studies and discussion prompts, this event will explore why these processes are in place and what the consequences of removing them might be. The event will highlight four key areas of regulation as examples - research involving human participants, research involving animals, research involving non-human genetic resources (Nagoya Protocol) and trusted research.
This session will be facilitated by colleagues in RKES and OSDU with expertise in research governance and ethics.
Course Outcomes/ Objectives:
Participating in this event will enable you to
- explore how processes such as ethical review protect research integrity;
- understand why processes such as ethical review are in place;
- appreciate what Ethics Committees are looking for when they review research proposals; and
- identify regulations that apply to your own work.
Please note that this event is part of Strathclyde's Research Integrity & Culture Week 2023. You can see the full programme for RI&C Week here.
