Is this course right for me?
Target Audience: All Staff
Recent surveys have shown that one in ten colleagues who have been employed during the menopause have left work due to menopause symptoms. Mapped on to the UK population that would represent an estimated 333,000 colleagues leaving their jobs due to the menopause. 61% said that they had lost motivation at work due to their symptoms, and 52% said they had lost confidence.
Menopause is still unfortunately a taboo subject to many people and that’s why it’s important we talk about it and normalise the conversation.
The university is hosting a question-and-answer style event for all colleagues to attend, and we have invited a fantastic guest speaker to support the conversation:
Dr Fiona O’Donoghue is a GP and menopause specialist who has worked in the NHS for over 25 years. She graduated from Queens University Belfast in 1991 and worked in Belfast before moving to work in Australia. She returned to Glasgow to complete GP training and has been here ever since. She worked in the first dedicated menopause clinic in the UK, incorporating clinical work with menopause research. (You can follow Dr Fiona on Instagram @menopausemedicglasgow)
This will be a lunchtime event held in person on campus with the opportunity to network over tea or coffee afterwards.
What to expect . . .
- Information and awareness overview from Dr Fiona
- Panel style question and answer session
- What do you want to see at Strathclyde to support your menopause journey?
- Tea, coffee, soft drinks for networking and chat
We would invite attendance from colleagues of all genders to help support our drive to normalise the conversation. You may have a partner at home going through menopause or work with a colleague who is experiencing menopause systems – this event is an excellent opportunity to learn and equip us all to be able to support each other.
The information and Q&A sections of the event will take place from 12.00pm to 1.00pm with the last 30 minutes dedicated to chat and networking over a cuppa!
Date: 24th October 2023 at 12.00pm to 1.30pm Venue: Collins Building Lecture Theatre CL205 – Collins Building, 22 Richmond Street, Glasgow, G1 1XH (Tea and coffee from 1.00pm in CL02 meeting room)
