Target Audience: All staff involved in leading, conducting or supporting research

This is a live on-campus event.

Come along for a unique opportunity to join the institutional conversation about what Strathclyde’s priorities around research culture should look like. Learn more about one of Strathclyde’s key decision-making bodies on research culture and development and feed into its future priorities!

In this open meeting of RDCSC, we invite you all to join the committee as we discuss institutional research culture approaches in the past, present and future.

The session will introduce what RDCSC is and does, including an overview over some of the committee’s past activities and achievements, before we move onto a discussion of potential future priorities for RDCSC where you will be invited to share your thoughts and ideas on topics such as:

  • Recognising ‘invisible’ labour in research cultures
  • Diversifying research leadership (and leadership cultures)
  • Supporting good people management practices and training
  • Creating inclusive spaces for diverse, high-quality research
  • Supporting researchers through professional and career development
  • and more…

In addition, the event will also share more information about Strathclyde’s new ‘Cultures of Collaboration in a Socially Progressive Technological University’ project which is funded through the Wellcome Trust’s institutional funding for research culture award and will start in early summer 2024. The project will provide a range of opportunities for staff to become involved, so for anyone interested in being a part of institutional conversations about research culture and collaboration this will be an excellent opportunity to find out more!

Some Context

Research culture is an increasingly prominent topic in relation to decision-making around research at the University, not least because both the Research Excellence Framework (REF) as well as Strathclyde’s new strategic plan Vision 2030 have embedded people & culture in research as one of their key priorities.

One of the main institutional decision-making bodies focused on research culture is the Research Development & Culture Sub-Committee (RDCSC) which includes representatives from all four Faculties, the research staff community and other Professional Service Departments that work with research or researchers.
