Target Audience: All staff involved in leading, conducting or supporting research
This is a live, on-campus event with an option for hybrid participation.
Come along for an informative afternoon of conversation on the topic of Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI), jointly organized with the Scottish Research Integrity Network. The event will explore not only what RRI is about, but also why it is important and what applying RRI concepts to research & innovation may mean in practice.
Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI) is a concept that has been introduced by UKRI and other funders more recently, aiming to foster creativity and scientific opportunities in research while aligning with social relevance and public interest. It recognises that innovation can pose questions and dilemmas, often characterised by ambiguity in the purpose and unpredictability of impact of research and innovation work. RRI is thus about establishing inclusive spaces and processes within research to explore these facets openly and collaboratively.
The event will run in the style of a World Café with small group discussions around specific questions and topics in the realm of RRI. Participants will include Strathclyde members as well as external colleagues from other Scottish and UK institutions.
Event Agenda:
14:30-14:45: Introduction and Overview of RRI (Dr Marisa Smith - Reader, Hunter Centre for Entrepreneurship, University of Strathclyde)
14:45-15:45: World Cafe (small group discussion around two pertinent topics):
- Discussion topic 1: Beyond subjects and participants: research ethics for all
- Discussion topic 2: From proposal to publication: managing the formalities of RRI
- Summary of discussions and next steps
15:45-16:00: Final Remarks and Close (Dr Helen Young - Head of Research Policy & Information, University of Strathclyde + Prof Inke Naethke - Associate Dean for Professional Culture, School of Life Sciences, University of Dundee)
