Is this course right for me?
Target Audience: Staff performing web development activities
The aim of this session is to enable developers to create accessible web forms and controls.
Many University activities involve completing forms. Whether it’s students applying for admission to a particular course, requesting financial support, or registering for a campus event; or staff booking annual leave, submitting expenses or completing their academic profile.
By designing forms with accessibility in mind, we can enable individuals to interact efficiently and independently with our digital platforms, ensuring equal access to services and opportunities.
Through practical examples and exercises, participants will learn development techniques to enable users to operate form controls, identify their purpose and usage, and recover from errors.
By the end of this session, you will be able to:
- write clear and concise labels, error messages, and instructions to help diverse users complete web forms
- use appropriate labelling techniques to ensure that all form elements are properly identified to assistive technologies
- apply HTML5 markup and WAI-ARIA attributes to create web forms that are operable by keyboard and assistive technology users
- test web forms for accessibility using a variety of manual and automated techniques
