For staff nominated to carry out manual handling assessments. Provides information and a step by step approach to the assessment of risks from manual handling activities.

This course is mandatory for all persons responsible for the assessment of risk from manual handling operations and to enable departments to comply with manual handling legislation and reduce their manual handling risks.

Aim of Training:

  • To provide information on the structure and functions of the musculoskeletal system
  • To raise awareness of the risks associated with manual handling activities
  • To outline the legal framework and requirements for controlling manual handling risks
  • To prove a step-by-step approach to the risk assessment process as applied to manual handling and give opportuity to carry out assessments and recommend improvements
  • To demonstrate ergonomic techniques for safe handling

Prerequisites

Attendance at the Manual Handling and Backcare Awareness training course is required before attending this assessors course. Staff require to be nominated by their Head of Department to carry out manual handling assessments within their departments.

Charges for no-shows to courses

When registering for a course, you should note that there will be a £50* charge to your department if you cancel within 5** working days or you do not attend. There will be a £25 charge for cancellations between 6 and 10 working days. There will be no charge for cancellations made 10 or more working days before the event. You should cancel your booking via the DAT system or by emailing safety.training@strath.ac.uk.

Your department is welcome to send someone else in your place if they wish without incurring a charge, providing that person has the necessary prerequisites for the course. In the case of courses split over more than one day, you must attend ALL parts of the course. If you fail to attend any part, you will be charged as outlined above.

*This is the standard charge for cancellation or non-attendance at a one day’s duration or less course. For some courses there may be a higher cancellation charge.
