Target Audience: Carers - Strathclyde University
This short session will explore what research has found on the impact of autism on families. It will provide an overview of some of the negative and positive impacts on families, including siblings, as well as the opportunities for growth and resilience that are associated with raising an autistic child. Very often the needs of autistic children are at the forefront of parents and carers’ lives, with often very little time to pause and reflect on the challenges and opportunities this presents for family life. During this brief introductory session, there will be a focus on risk factors and protective factors that can affect family wellbeing and wholeness. The idea and concept of developing ‘rhythms of rest’ will be explored as a practice for sustainable family living.
