    As an introduction to working safely with biological materials at the University of Strathclyde, all members of staff and postgraduate researchers who will be working with such material must complete Modules 1 - 4 and pass the module assessments.

Target Audience: Staff and Postgraduate Students

This training is split into topic based modules. Modules 1 - 4 is the basic biosafety training and is compulsory for anyone working with biological material. Modules 5 and 6 must be completed dependent on the nature of the work being undertaken. 

The training is set up in such a way that you can progress by dipping in and out at a time to suit you. The training must however be completed in order and each end of module quiz must be completed in one sitting.  

  • Module 1: Basic Biosafety (Mandatory for all biological workers)
  • Module 2: Controlling the Risk of Exposure to Infectious Agents (Mandatory for all biological workers)
  • Module 3: Working Safely with Infectious Agents (Mandatory for all biological workers)
  • Module 4: Emergency Planning (Mandatory for all biological workers)
  • Module 5: Genetic Modification (Mandatory for anyone working with GM materials)
  • Module 6: Transport of Infectious Substances and Dry Ice (Mandatory for anyone transporting biological material)

Prerequisites

COSHH Essentials must also be completed before working with biological material (including genetically modified where applicable).
