Target Audience: Open to anyone

If you are looking for new ways to cope with stress, or if you are wishing to take steps towards changing your life to address challenges such as stress, this six-week course is ideally suited for you. 

Over the duration of the online course we will examine the impacts of stress from the perspective of positive psychology, covering a wide range of topics and hopefully exploring some areas for personal development which will aid you in coping with stress and overcoming challenges, 

The course covers the following:

  1.  Introduction : What is Resiliency?: 24/10/24 1400-1500
  • Ingredients of Resilience/ the 7C’s 
  • Barriers to resilience   
  • How resilient are you?  

 2. The Foundations: “Take Care of Yourself” : 31/10/24 1400-1500

  • The Stress Bucket   
  • Sleep, diet & exercise  
  • Breathing & meditation introduction 

 

3. Building Connections: 07/11/24 1400-1500

  • Relaxation exercise: building a safe place  
  • Social anxiety psychoeducation   
  • Behavioural experiments   
  • Social skills e.g. conversation strategies  
  • Ideas & places for connections   
  • On and off campus  
  • Stepping outside of your comfort zone image  

 4. Avoiding Seeing Crises as Insurmountable Problems:  14/11/24 1400-1500

  • Relaxation exercise: Leaves on a stream   
  • Cognitive restructuring   
  • Perspective taking - example of someone with resilience & someone without  
  • Keeping an eye on thinking and using it as a way to gauge resiliency levels   
  • Unhelpful Thinking Styles  

 5. Taking Decisive Action:  21/11/24 1400-1500

  • Relaxation exercise   
  • Locust of control  
  • Example of studying e.g. doing a dissertation   
  • Focus plan  
  • Tie in with the foundation!   

 6.Self- compassion input: “Nurture Encouraging Self-talk and Alternative Perspectives” : 28/11/24 1400-100 

  • Link between inner critic, anxiety and resilience  
  • Self- compassion focus  
  • Relapse prevention with early warning signs  
  • How resilient are you now?

We understand that attending a group like this me difficult, we would ask that people who join keep their camera's on but understand some people may be uncomfortable with this.
