Target Audience: Staff
This talk provides a discussion about the extant literature regarding the prevalence of planning for suicide, best practices in assessing suicide planning, and concerns about existing tools commonly used in clinical settings. Specifically, this talk discusses how scholars in the field actually define what a plan for suicide is (and how many disagree on this important consideration), how common plans for suicide are in adults, the quantitative relationship between plans for suicide and eventual suicidal behavior, and how small changes to how a question regarding plans for suicide is asked can greatly influence patient disclosure.
