Research Professional workshop with 1-2-1 advice
Winning competitive research funding is an important aspect of your role as research-active staff to grow your research trajectory and progress your research career. In a landscape where there are thousands of funders and schemes available to you, knowing which opportunities to prioritise based on your career stage and what you need the funding for will help you target the funding calls which are right for you, and plan ahead for upcoming opportunities.
Research Professional is an online platform designed for sharing research funding call information and news from a wide range of UK and international funding organisations. It is a great resource for anyone looking for opportunities to apply for funding!
This interactive workshop will provide you with both:
- A better understanding of how to use Research Professional most effectively to support your research ideas and funding needs, including an overview from the platform provider and time to create your own funding searches and alerts with support from Mel Brown in RKES.
- An individual surgery in parallel with Emma Compton-Daw (OSDU Researcher Development Manager) and Daniela Bolle-Joyce (RKES Head of Strategic Research Funding) to help you develop a funding plan that is right for your career stage.
The workshop is suitable for beginners as well as anyone who wants to refresh or expand their knowledge of Research Professional.
Course Outcomes/Objectives;
By the end of the workshop, you will:
- Have a better understanding of what Research Professional is and can be used for
- Be able to conduct quick and refined searches for funding opportunities that are relevant to your area of interest
- Be able to save search criteria and set up automated funding alerts for new opportunities that meet your interests or needs
- Be able to share funding opportunities within the platform and externally
- Be able to Join workgroups tailored towards your faculty or area of research
- Have had the opportunity for a conversation with RKES/OSDU colleagues to support your funding journey
Accessibility;
We are committed to ensuring our events and courses are accessible to all staff:
- Hybrid provision is not available
- There will be audience participation
- You are asked to attend the whole session
- This will be a short session without a break
- The session is relaxed – this means you can stretch, move around, stim etc.
- In line with current University health and safety guidance, attendees may wish to use face masks. The room will have either mechanical ventilation or passive ventilation (i.e. open windows)
- Digital copies of resources will be emailed to participants in advance of delivery upon request

When applying for a course, you should note that there will be a £50* charge to your Department / School if you do not attend your place on the course. There will be no charge as long as you cancel your booked place before the event or notify our staff at osdu@strath.ac.uk that you can no longer attend.
A Department / School is welcome to send someone else in your place if they wish without incurring a charge, providing that person has the necessary prerequisites for the course. In the case of courses split over more than one day, you are expected to attend ALL parts of the course.
*This is the standard charge for cancellation or non-attendance of a course of 1-day duration or less. For some courses, there may be a higher cancellation charge and if this is the case you will be advised of this at the time of booking.
