May is Mental Health Awareness Month in the UK with the 12th to 18th May specifically set aside as Mental Health Awareness Week.
To celebrate and raise awareness the University is hosting a breakfast event on Wednesday 28th May to which all staff are invited. The event is a great opportunity to network with colleagues and listen to some short presentation about mental health.
We have a guest presenter from the charity SeeMe who will speak about the work they do in Scotland to tackle mental health stigma and discrimination. We will also have speakers from our own Strathclyde Psychology Department who will present on managing sleep issues and how to deal with anxiety.
This is a breakfast event , so there will be hot rolls, tea and coffee available. A great opportunity to meet other staff and listen to some really great presentations.
What to expect:
9.30am:

10.00am:
- Welcome (5mins) – Kevin Donovan, Staff Wellbeing Manager
- Tackling Mental Health Stigma (20mins) – Bryony Mole, SeeMe
- Managing Anxiety (15mins) – Dr Irina Campbell, Strathclyde Psychology
- Healthy Sleep (15mins) – Dr Leanne Flemming, Strathclyde Psychology
11.00am: Finish
Where:
- Lecture Theatre TL325a & 325b. The big lecture theatre on level 3 of the Learning and Teaching building, just off the student village. Catering will be provided just outside.
This will be a really great event – not to be missed. Very relaxed with some excellent speakers – sign up early to avoid disappointment.
