Is this course right for me?
Target Audience: Research staff, academic staff and professional services staff
This is a live 'in-person' event.
Course Description;
Are you a PI struggling with conflict within your team or looking for ways to advocate for yourself among peers? Or a Researcher who finds it difficult to raise concerns or provide feedback to your supervisor or colleagues? Whether you’re leading a group or within one, this workshop provides practical models and tools to help you respond and communicate more effectively in these moments of tension.
It may be enquiring after someone or talking about your own wellbeing, a tricky relationship, getting or offering feedback, working with criticism or complaints, expressing your concerns about progress or…well…the opportunities to practice challenging conversations are many and various. Given it’s such a common requirement, how can we make it easier, advocate for ourselves and get more confident in having these conversations?
In this confidential, interactive workshop, we’ll look at common reactions and approaches to conflict, that may help to shed light on your responses to those difficult conversations. We’ll also look at articulating, and listening to, concerns and feedback clearly; to give your communication a structure.
While the way you express and use these tools is likely to vary from person to person, we challenge you to put them into practice with real challenges from your world that you bring to work on.
Course Outcomes/ Objectives;
In particular, you’ll practice:
· recognising patterns of thought and behaviour in conflict
· understanding models of response to conflict situations
· listening to understand yourself and others
· articulating concerns clearly and assertively
· applying these to real situations you bring to work on
