Is this course right for me?

Target Audience: PGR students in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences

This workshop explores the theoretical and practical issues involved in planning your methodology- how do you choose between qualitative, quantitative or a mixed methods design?

We will then explore in depth some of the more common qualitative methods, such as interviews and focus groups . We will weigh the advantages and disadvantages of using each method, the main issues to consider in identifying suitable interviewees and participants, and the practical issues involved in planning interview schedules, designing the best questions, setting up meetings and conducting the interviews/groups.

There will be opportunities for practising your own interviewing skills and discussing your own experience/research plans.
