Is this course right for me?

Target Audience: PGRs more than 9 months into their PhD, and more than 12 months away from completion.

This interactive workshop will review the purpose of a PhD and key milestones to review and reflect on our individual progress. It will then explore essential ‘completion’ requirements: assessment criteria, the examination process, thesis structure and the argument being made. This will be personalised to each participant’s doctorate.

This understanding will then support a focus on identifying and developing key critical and analytical skills - including research communication and, interdisciplinarity and using feedback - that we can build into our daily work to become a more effective researcher.

By the end of the workshop participants will:

  • Understand the assessment criuteria for a PhD, and how these will be examined
  • Have a clearer understanding of their own doctoral argument, and how this will be presented in their thesis
  • Develop skills for research communication, including to support interdisciplinary and collaborative working
  • Be more adept in critically appraising complex work, asking great questions, providing and using meaningful feedback, to strengthen their own research position.
