Target Audience: PGRs within 12 months of completing their PhD.

This interactive workshop will focus on planning for a successful and timely completion of the doctorate. Rooted in an understanding of the task ahead: planning, writing and editing a thesis that meets the assessment criteria. Including time and project management for producing a thesis; writing skills; honing the argument; and, understanding what is sufficient for completion. With a focus on the examination process, including how thesis-writing is part of viva preparation, we will also think about what comes after the PhD - setting your horizon beyond the end of the thesis.

By the end of the workshop participants will:

  • Understand what they need to do to plan, write and edit a thesis that will meet the assessment criteria
  • Be clear about the requirements, so that they can be confident in their argument, and able to move comfortably from the research stage into the thesis-producing stage
  • Have explored how to write a thesis that shows their research is robust, demonstrates their scholarship and that will support them in a successful viva
  • Be ready to take definite planning steps towards what comes next after their PhD.
