Designed to inspire creative thinking and commercial awareness, the session helps participants identify entrepreneurial opportunities and develop viable business ideas. It’s ideal for researchers interested in translating their expertise into real-world impact through business ventures.  

Highly interactive, with researchers working in teams to generate business ideas and develop them using the Lean Canvas model. The session covers how to identify customer needs, test assumptions, assess risks, and refine value propositions. Participants will also learn how to pitch their ideas effectively to potential stakeholders. The day concludes with a pitching challenge to consolidate learning and build confidence 

By the end of the workshop you will have: 

  • Generated and evaluated business ideas.  
  • Applied lean startup principles to research-driven ventures.  
  • Identified and tested key business assumptions

  • Learned how to deliver a persuasive business pitch.

PG Certificate in Researcher Professional Development

All postgraduate research students are eligible to access the Researcher Development Programme workshops. This workshop can contribute towards the PG Certificate in Researcher Professional Development (PG Cert RPD).

You can find credit and class information in the Researcher Development Programme Handbook and in NEPTUNE (Engineering, HaSS) or SPIDER (Science).

Please check with your department or Supervisor to confirm if you are enrolled on the PG Cert RPD and how many credits you are expected to achieve if you are unsure.
