Is this course right for me?
Target Audience: PGRs
Participants apply storytelling tools to the grant writing process. They explore what grant panels are looking for, how to frame their research using a theory of change, and how to present themselves and their work persuasively. Participants are asked to draft their research story for feedback. This session helps refine their narrative and build confidence for writing and interviews.
By the end of the workshop you will have:
- An understanding of what grant panels are looking for and how to meet their expectations
- Applied storytelling techniques to structure a compelling grant narrative
- Learned how to present your grant story clearly and confidently in writing and interviews
Participants complete an online course introducing the theory of storytelling and its application to research communication. This pre-work allows time for reflection and prepares participants to make the most of the live sessions.

Followed by ½ day online 09:30 – 12.30 (normally one week later)

All postgraduate research students are eligible to access the Researcher Development Programme workshops. This workshop can contribute towards the PG Certificate in Researcher Professional Development (PG Cert RPD).
You can find credit and class information in the Researcher Development Programme Handbook and in NEPTUNE (Engineering, HaSS) or SPIDER (Science).
Please check with your department or Supervisor to confirm if you are enrolled on the PG Cert RPD and how many credits you are expected to achieve if you are unsure.
