The workshop will also introduce practical techniques for structuring an application, writing with clarity and precision, using evidence effectively and maintaining a consistent narrative across different sections. Participants will work with sample calls and application extracts and apply the techniques to a current or potential research idea. The focus is on building transferable grant-writing skills suitable for postgraduate researchers who may be developing small funding applications, contributing to larger bids or preparing for future research funding opportunities.
by the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:
- Interpret the purpose, requirements and assessment criteria of a research funding call.
- Structure a focused and coherent case for support.
- Communicate the research need, aims, approach, significance and potential benefits clearly.
- Review and strengthen a draft from the perspective of a funding reviewer

All postgraduate research students are eligible to access the Researcher Development Programme workshops. This workshop can contribute towards the PG Certificate in Researcher Professional Development (PG Cert RPD).
You can find credit and class information in the Researcher Development Programme Handbook and in NEPTUNE (Engineering, HaSS) or SPIDER (Science).
Please check with your department or Supervisor to confirm if you are enrolled on the PG Cert RPD and how many credits you are expected to achieve if you are unsure.
