The session begins with an exploration of audience analysis and the importance of aligning stories with audience values and interests. Participants will learn how to structure stories with purpose, develop characters and emotional arcs, and apply storytelling techniques to real-world research communication scenarios. The workshop includes practical exercises in narrative construction, delivery, and feedback. Whether for conferences, publications, or public outreach, this session provides the essential tools to make research stories stick wherever they’re shared.  

By the end of the workshop you will have:

  • Defined and analysed target audiences for storytelling.
  • Learned how to craft purpose-driven narratives with clear objectives. 
  • Applied story structure to create engaging, memorable content.

PG Certificate in Researcher Professional Development

All postgraduate research students are eligible to access the Researcher Development Programme workshops. This workshop can contribute towards the PG Certificate in Researcher Professional Development (PG Cert RPD).

You can find credit and class information in the Researcher Development Programme Handbook and in NEPTUNE (Engineering, HaSS) or SPIDER (Science).

Please check with your department or Supervisor to confirm if you are enrolled on the PG Cert RPD and how many credits you are expected to achieve if you are unsure.
