This intensive bootcamp is geared to inspire researchers to recognise and capitalise on entrepreneurship opportunity by introducing them to the fundamentals of learn lean startup methodology. Designed to inspire creative thinking and commercial awareness, the session helps participants identify entrepreneurial opportunities and develop viable business ideas. It’s ideal for researchers interested in translating their expertise into real-world impact through business ventures.
Course Content Specification
Highly interactive, with researchers working in teams to generate business ideas and develop them using the Lean Canvas model. The session covers how to identify customer needs, test assumptions, assess risks, and refine value propositions. Participants will also learn how to pitch their ideas effectively to potential stakeholders. The day concludes with a pitching challenge to consolidate learning and build confidence.
Learning Outcomes By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:
• Generate and evaluate business ideas.
• Apply lean startup principles to research-driven ventures.
• Use the Lean Canvas to structure a business model.
• Identify and test key business assumptions.

Prerequisites

All postgraduate research students are eligible to access the Researcher Development Programme workshops. This workshop can contribute towards the PG Certificate in Researcher Professional Development (PG Cert RPD).
You can find credit and class information in the Researcher Development Programme Handbook and in NEPTUNE (Engineering, HaSS) or SPIDER (Science).
Please check with your department or Supervisor to confirm if you are enrolled on the PG Cert RPD and how many credits you are expected to achieve if you are unsure.
