Target Audience: Staff at Strathclyde who would like to develop and apply essential AI skills.
Many generative AI tools claim to offer an “AI Assistant” to streamline workloads and improve efficiency, but they often involve a lot of work to fine-tune tasks to be genuinely helpful.
This beginner-friendly online session provides a short overview of Google Notebook LM, which couples a simple interface with a powerful AI. Notebook LM forms its responses primarily from files and resources supplied by the user, so output is taken directly from the source material and is potentially more transparent than other AI tools.
The session will explore what Notebook LM can be used for, its main features, and how it can support teaching and learning. There will also be demonstrations of its function as an AI Assistant, summarising, organising, building context, and generating innovative output.
By the end of this session, participants should be able to:
- Explain the main features of Google Notebook LM.
- Explore ways in which Notebook LM can be used for learning and teaching or student support.
- Create a new notebook and upload resources for summarising.
- Evaluate the output based on knowledge of the resources.
