One-off face-to-face workshop

 This 90-minute interactive workshop brings together a mixed audience from across the university to explore the question: what is effective mentoring? Through guided discussion and reflection, participants will consider the purposes of mentoring, characteristics of effective mentoring relationships, and how mentoring needs and expectations can differ across roles, responsibilities, and career stages.

The session is discussion-led rather than prescriptive. Insights generated during the workshop will inform the development of practical mentoring guidance that colleagues can use across the university.

Course Outcomes/ Objectives;

By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:

  1. Describe the value of mentoring in supporting career development.
  2. Identify key characteristics of effective mentoring across different roles, job families, and career stages.
  3. Reflect on boundaries, power dynamics, and challenges in mentoring relationships.
  4. Contribute shared principles and insights to inform mentoring guidance.
