Staff Wellbeing Breakfast Event: Cancer, Work and Support
Date: 21st April 2026 at 10.00am
Venue: Technology and Innovation Centre (TIC)
At some point in our working lives, most of us will be affected by cancer, either personally, through someone we love, or through a colleague we work alongside and crucially when a colleague is diagnosed with cancer, knowing how to respond and support them can make a world of difference.
Join us for a special staff wellbeing breakfast event bringing colleagues together for an important and often difficult conversation about cancer and the workplace.
Across our community, many of us will experience cancer in some way during our working lives. It may affect us personally, someone we care about, or a colleague we work alongside. Knowing how to navigate these situations with understanding and confidence can make a huge difference.
This event creates a space for learning, reflection and conversation over breakfast.
We are delighted to welcome the Beatson Cancer Charity Workplace Outreach Team, who will share practical guidance on:
- How managers can support an employee diagnosed with cancer
- How colleagues can support someone going through treatment
- What compassionate workplaces can do to make a difference
We will also hear from former professional footballer and cancer survivor John Hartson, who will share his powerful personal story of diagnosis, treatment and recovery. John speaks openly about the physical and emotional realities of cancer and the importance of support from those around us.
This promises to be a thought provoking and inspiring session, helping us all feel better equipped to support one another.
