How do you navigate the Research landscape, manage the challenges, and enjoy the highlights? And with a degree of confidence and resilience? This series of four, highly interactive 90-minutes workshops looks to address that question and give you tools, attitudes and methods to do just that.

The number of challenges currently facing Universities places a large number of challenges on those involved, and heightens the ever-present demands of winning funding, teaching and research excellence, publication and managing others (to name but a few). But it’s not all challenge, there are highlights and enjoyable aspects to the role too.

So, how do you navigate that sort of landscape, manage the challenges, and enjoy the highlights? And with a degree of confidence and resilience?

This series of four, highly interactive 90-minutes workshops looks to address that question and give you tools, attitudes and methods to do just that. More specifically, after the series of workshops you will have:

Session 1:

  • Considered the ups and downs of your academic life and how to view them
  • Explored a model, and a personalised map, of resilience
  • Devised actions to develop your resilience through time

Session 2:

  • Looked at the intelligence trap and how it can affect confidence and resilience
  • Practiced with a cognitive tool for working with challenge
  • Applied this to real situations you face

Session 3:

  • Considered where to direct your attention in challenging situations
  • Learned about solution-focused approaches to working with challenge
  • Applied this to real challenges you face

Session 4:

  • Looked at confidence, and the impact of cognition
  • Examined aspects of impostor syndrome
  • Applied this to challenging situations
