Target Audience: Writing for non-specialist audiences
This highly interactive workshop is aimed at those nearing completion of their IAA projects. Participants will draw upon their knowledge of their project, its outputs and outcomes, and be guided in how to construct a case study, that highlights the real-world impacts of their project to a non-specialist audience, through practical writing sessions and peer feedback.
Participants will gain an understanding of:
- ‘non-specialist’ audiences and overlapping identities;
- the ways in which learning how to pitch your research to different audiences can help develop your career;
- general principles for writing for non-specialist audiences;
- the same topic can be pitched or framed towards the interests of different audiences;
- different approaches to defining and describing the impact of research;
- different tools for bringing your research to life: using metaphor, quotes, links to topics of interest and relevance to your audience;
- the pros and cons of AI;
- choosing images and copyright implications.
Lunch will be provided; please advise us of any dietary requirements when booking and we will do our best to accommodate these.
Due to the highly interactive nature of this training, spaces are limited. Please book early to secure your space.
Please note if you have previously attended an IAA supported “Impact Case study training” workshop, this is the same training course; it has been re-branded to differentiate it from REF impact case study training, though this course will be broadly useful in that context also.
