Is this course right for me?

Target Audience: This event is for research and knowledge exchange staff, and anyone else involved in research and/or KE, with a focus for HaSS and SBS

This is a live in-person event with refreshments provided. This session has a particular focus for HaSS/SBS Faculty, but staff from any faculty are welcome to attend  

This half-day course includes presentations, discussions and breakout exercises to facilitate peer-to-peer learning, with opportunities for participants to reflect on their own RRI-related responsibilities and challenges.

You will gain an understanding of what RRI is and why it matters, and an introduction to the AREA framework. You will have the opportunity to use RRI to navigate inter-related research frameworks and agendas, and the trainer will provide insights into key research agendas supported by RRI. You will have the opportunity to work in groups to discuss possible resolutions to RRI case studies and explore the challenges and benefits of embedding RRI approaches into the research life cycle. You will receive a brief overview of the UKRI expectations on RRI and general guidance on how to integrate RRI into funding applications. 

Learning objectives include: 

• Improved understanding of RRI, its aims and principles
• Improved skills in using use the AREA framework to integrate RRI into the planning, execution and dissemination of research and research outputs
• Improved understanding of how to consider and undertake stakeholder engagement, to consider and mitigate the environmental impacts of research, and how to embed EDI principles into research practice, planning and public engagement
• Improved skills in navigating different interrelated research agendas through RRI
• Improved understanding of funder expectations with respect to RRI
• Improved knowledge of the challenges and benefits of RRI
• Improved understanding of the responsible innovation approach, including of social responsibility, environmental responsibility and conducting research for societal benefit
• Improved knowledge of available RRI resources

This workshop is presetend by Dr Jane Alfred, of Catalyst Editroial Ltd, who is a research integrity consultant and experienced journal editor, with a research background in the life sciences.
