Suitable for;
Academic, teaching, professional services and support staff involved in learning, teaching and/or supporting student learning, including colleagues preparing Advance HE Fellowship applications or other reflective learning and teaching narratives. Open to all staff with an interest in developing purposeful reflective writing about educational practice.

Move beyond description and develop purposeful reflective writing about learning and teaching practice. This practical DELTA workshop supports colleagues preparing Fellowship applications or other reflective accounts of educational practice.

This interactive DELTA workshop supports colleagues to develop reflective writing about learning and teaching practice with greater purpose, clarity and confidence. It is particularly relevant to staff preparing Advance HE Fellowship applications, but is open to anyone who wishes to strengthen their ability to write reflectively about educational practice, professional learning and impact.

Through short inputs, discussion and guided writing activities, participants will explore the difference between descriptive and reflective writing, consider models of reflective practice, and practise developing focused accounts that explain what they did, why they made particular choices, how they know their practice was effective and inclusive, and what they learned as a result.

Course Outcomes/Objectives;

By participating in this workshop, you will be able to:

  • Distinguish between descriptive writing and purposeful reflective writing in learning and teaching contexts.
  • Use reflective prompts and models to analyse examples from their own practice.
  • Explain the rationale, evidence, effectiveness and future development of a learning and teaching example.
  • Identify how reflective writing can support Fellowship applications and other professional learning and teaching narratives.

Relevant reflective writing and Fellowship guidance will be shared with participants in advance or during the session.

Prerequisites

Participants are encouraged to bring a brief example, idea or teaching/supporting learning experience they may wish to write about. The session will involve short writing exercises and discussion, but participants will not be required to share anything they do not wish to share.

Cancellation Policy

When applying for a course, you should note that there will be a £50* charge to your Department / School if you do not attend your place on the course. There will be no charge as long as you cancel your booked place before the event or notify our staff at osdu@strath.ac.uk that you can no longer attend.

A Department / School is welcome to send someone else in your place if they wish without incurring a charge, providing that person has the necessary prerequisites for the course. In the case of courses split over more than one day, you are expected to attend ALL parts of the course.

*This is the standard charge for cancellation or non-attendance of a course of 1-day duration or less. For some courses, there may be a higher cancellation charge and if this is the case you will be advised of this at the time of booking.
