Target Audience: staff, students, researchers

Starting with arguably the most famous Deafblind person, Helen Keller, this session will raise awareness of dual sensory loss, bringing the story bang up-to-date with the recent successful campaign to have it considered as a distinct disability in Scotland. 

Session Outcomes: 

  • An improved knowledge and understanding of the history of Deaflindness/dual sensory loss
  • Awareness and understanding of the recent  international work to adopt the Nordic Definition of Deafblindness/dual sensory loss
  • Awareness of the  Campaign for distinct disability status  in Scotland and consideration of what the future holds for people with dual sensory loss/Deafblindness.

This seminar is intended as an introductory session to the immersive workshop on Deafblindness.

Those who attend this session and the immersive workshop will be considered Right to Dream trained and will receive a certificate for inclusion in CPD portfolio, and a Deafblind Scotland pin badge.

The sessions can be done in any order.
